Jess WIP

Well I have got a bit more of Jess done, I am slowly on my way to getting this complete. I have had a big weekend due to the fact that on Saturday I got engaged! I am really excited and my head is swimming with thoughts and plans. This means that I have only just gotten back to Jess tonight, but it is coming along nicely and hopefully will be finished by the weekend.

Slowly Recovering

Well over the last few days I have been pretty sick. It has just been the flu but I think it has affected my ears a bit as I spent a fair amount of time feeling sick and dizzy. I have managed to get a little bit of work done matting Starr and getting a bit of Jess's portrait done.

Starr's portrait is for sale for $125.00 with 20% going to ARF (ACT rescue and foster) if you are interested then let me know.

Disaster - Not really

You know there are times when you set out to do something and you end up with something else. This is exactly what has happened to my current piece of work. I started out with an idea but you know I just have not achieved it. I wanted it for a competition but it is just not right so instead of submitting it regardless I have decided to set it aside. I was reading an article today written by someone I consider a friend, she is a fellow artist who has some seriously fantastic talent. She said she burns anything that is no good, well I not going to burn it, but I have learnt a fair bit from it. Here is the last photo and lets not talk of it again!

Current Work

Well this is what I have been working on the last few nights. Tonight I have been a bit all over the place in regard to which part of Yuki's face I feel like doing, so the piece looks a bit funny at the moment but it will all come together in the end.

A little bit of colour

This is not a medium that I use alot but I thought I would post if up as this was very much a piece I created tonight because I felt compelled to, it is kind of a weird feeling when your brain suddenly starts ticking over and really wants to get something done. It did not turn out as well as I hoped, but that is ok, as each piece I create teaches and shows me something new.

Little Sketches for Fun

So I have been working on some larger stuff on and off for the past few days but did not feel like posting any of it at the moment as it is mostly in it's weird stages with an eye done here and a bit of an ear there, so I thought I would post a few little fun sketches I did today. I love doing these little guys as they are relaxing, fast and there is zero pressure to get them right, sometimes they are great and sometimes they make it to the completely unrecognisable pile.

I hope to update you guys more with these, it will be interesting to see what they look like after a year or so of doodling!

So here they are

How Time Flies

Wow time has really flown by since the last time I posted. Lots of things have been happening, not many of them art related unfortunately, but things have started to settle down again so I can get back into my art again. I am still working on Jess as well as a few other scribblings such as the birds listed below.

For the next few weeks though I am working on a new project that I am getting ready for a special competition, it is a bit late to start but I have been planning and planning, so hopefully with a few late nights I can get it done.

All eyes on you

Well all eyes are in now, tomorrow will be on the nose, lol. I have to say that Jess's eyes were a bit of a challenge, and I am still not sure I am happy with them.

Small progresses, and a little fun

Well I have not got much more work done as I had dog training last night, life is still getting in the way. The work i have been doing has been interesting as the eyes on a couple of the dogs I am drawing are a bit different. They do not have as much detail in their eyes showing, instead the light is reflecting off the surface of their eyes, I don't mind the effect but it is hard to achieve. So these guys have taken a bit more time.

I have also been playing a bit with my Ipad, downloading apps to try and help me organise a few things like finances and meals. Something else I have been playing with is Sketchbook Pro, which is a great app, but it is hard to master drawing with my fingers as you can not easily see where to join up lines etc. Here is a little drawing I did in about 10 minutes during my lunch break the other day. I made a few layers for the colour and then moved the original sketch back to the top. I guess this would be classed as a self portrait. ;p

Delays, Life, Technology and Progress

So, maybe some of you have been wondering how my dog portraits have been going. Well I can tell you slowly is how they are going. Life has firmly stamped it's foot down and stopped me from getting alot of work done.

Firstly I had some house painting I wished to get started as it has been dragged out for ages. I got most of it done, just a few touch ups to go. There was of course the standard washing and cleaning that needed to be done. It is almost tax time, and my partner and I have decided to get a budget together and organise things a bit better, he wants nothing to do with creating the actual budget so I have spent hours creating pages of excel spreadsheets which is not what I can fun. Mostly completed now.

In an attempt to save some money we have also decided to plan our meals and lunches more as it is so easy to burn through money when buying lunch everyday (and my vice, zero coke) so we hope to curb that habit. So I have been planning meals and writing shopping lists as well. I am kinda over spreadsheets now!

Last but not least it is my birthday soon, and I received an early birthday present of an ipad (well half an ipad, I sold a bunch of stuff to earn the other half of the ipad) and it is hard to resist whittling away the hours fiddling with it and the large number of apps that do not cost alot alone, but of course add up, with budget in mind I have had to limit myself to 3 apps this week. The main one I have tried is sketchbook Pro, it is a lovely drawing app, but will take some learning as it is hard to work out where the line is going under your fat finger ;p

Well  thought I would post up where I am at with my drawings any how, all the initial line work is in and I have started a little work on KC's eyes.

All Lined Up

Well I was not to well yesterday so there was no drawing done. But I do still have an update on Starr. I have decided to work on all the portraits I have to do at the moment at the same time to give myself a bit of variety. So all of tonight I have been setting up the other 5 portraits, two of which now have the initial line down and have been cleaned up. Three more line works to do and then on to the more fun stuff! Also lots of work to get done on my website this weekend, hopefully there will be an update there soon as well.

An update on most things

Sooo, the weekend has been quiet, but I have been whittling away the hours updating my blog and a number of other things. For quite a while now I have not been happy with my website, so I have just purchased some software (which will hopefully arrive in the next few days) to help me but together something that not only looks good, but is also organised. I will feel much better when I have got the new website up, and might even have a few works for sale.

Tonight I have been working on Starr, and am considering starting another work so I can spend a bit of time on each every night, just to add a little variety. I am actually pretty happy with the way that Starr's portrait is turning out. Hopefully I am not alone =]

Starr a WIP

So here is my latest WIP, it is a bit of slow going as I am also working on something else that I can not post up. Starr is my first blue heeler type and her colouring is a bit difficult, I am taking my time, but I might start over if I do not like how it is going. I having a pretty good time at the moment experimenting with diffrent techniques and working out how to acheive the finish I am after.

Starr is a lovely puppy, hope to get this finished up soon as I have quite a few to get done over the next month or so.

Back again

Well I have been away for a while. Primarily because I was completing a commission for a birthday present so I could not post any info about it. Since then I have take a little break, and have been playing around with colour pencils and pastels. I am back into it today and should have an update tomorrow. For now, here is a picture of the commission mentioned above, and one of my first complete pastel drawings. The pastels defiantly need some work but it is getting there.

Rotary's Lake George Harvest Festival Art Competition

Well I finished Nature's Keeper this morning and got both pieces framed. Then headed off to drop them at the competition. Tonight was the awards and reception/opening. I was stoked to find out that Nature's Keeper had in fact won Best Drawing/Pastel/Mixed Media entry. I am really happy with the result and look forward to entering again next year.

Lovely ARF girls

I have been trying to pull together some photos of the lovely rescue dogs at ARF before winter as the days get to short for taking photos and I travel a fair bit on the weekends.

Today as part of that I got to meet these three lovely girls. The first of these girls is Jess. Jess is one of the most lovely dogs I have met, super friendly and happy, with a gorgeous smile. Jess is pretty active and loves playing with her other doggy companions as well as checking out all the humans around to see if they want to play as well. More info on Jess is avalible here

The next two littlies are not available for adoption yet. They are both lovely friendly girls who I had a great time with. The first is KC, a lovely little staff type who is just recovering from a skin condition. The second is Tess, she has not been in foster care for long, but already she is settling in nicely.

Over the weekend I have been working on my current piece, I should have an update tomorrow!
