Tired of the fast Social Media.

I am not sure what it is about blogs but they always used to feel so nice. I used to have a rather long list of blogs that I used to visit all the time and for some reason or another I just stopped going which seems like such a shame. You get so much more from a blog post often, rather then that super fast flashy picture or reel or short that we just scroll through mindlessly, blog posts even when just photos seem to have just a bit more intent in them and are more easily consumed in isolation from others and so the content is easier to appreciate and memorable.

The pressure was never the same either and I wonder if that is because really people mostly have to want to either find your blog or stumble upon it and need to make a conscious effort to return, so the thoughtless opinion of others is less oppressive.

Any how I have not been here for a while but I thought I might bring it back out again as while I like to share my work and what I am doing (and at least 2 of my friends like to see it) I can’t handle the overwhelming nastiness and pressure that is Instagram and all the micro transnational social media platforms out there.

If you want to be here then welcome . . . If you don’t then great I appreciate you quietly leaving.

Shimmer

Shimmer is now complete and ready for matting. I am so happy with how this portrait turned out. I have to admit that I was scared of starting it but as always it was well worth starting because it just evolved from there.

Shimmer, still a work in progress

Well I still working on Shimmer as I am finding it quite a difficult portrait to complete. I have to spend quite a bit of time away from it before i come back as the details are quite difficult to pin down since she is a lovely all white dog, being a large portrait also focusing on the fine details in one area only means you can lose track of the whole thing if you do not pull away often enough. Determination will win through with this one though. I just wish I did not have to work full time as well!

Well lots of things have been happening and time has been flying by! I got married! We had a fantastic day and a lovely honeymoon. Before the big day I started a new portrait of a lovely Samoyed called Shimmer who I was fortunate enough to meet and photograph a few months ago. So far I have spent quite a bit of time blacking in the back ground, but have finally started on more of the details and her lovely face. This is a larger portrait so it is going to take a few more days yet!

I hope to get some pieces ready to enter in the Jindabyne Easter art show. This is the first little piece that I have created for the show. It is also the first colour pencil piece that I have created, it took a while but I am happy with the results.

Well time is flying by! I have been over seas for the last month or so hence the lack of work over Feb. I have been home for a few days and have been getting back into my work, trying to finish up a few pieces that I have had to put aside to get other pieces done.

I visited Jess quite a while ago when she was rescued by ACT Rescue and Foster. This piece is for sale and 20% will be going to ARF. If you are thinking about a new dog, please consider a lovely rescue dog! If you are in the ACT area check out ARF at http://www.fosterdogs.org/

Jess WIP

Well I have got a bit more of Jess done, I am slowly on my way to getting this complete. I have had a big weekend due to the fact that on Saturday I got engaged! I am really excited and my head is swimming with thoughts and plans. This means that I have only just gotten back to Jess tonight, but it is coming along nicely and hopefully will be finished by the weekend.

Slowly Recovering

Well over the last few days I have been pretty sick. It has just been the flu but I think it has affected my ears a bit as I spent a fair amount of time feeling sick and dizzy. I have managed to get a little bit of work done matting Starr and getting a bit of Jess's portrait done.

Starr's portrait is for sale for $125.00 with 20% going to ARF (ACT rescue and foster) if you are interested then let me know.

Disaster - Not really

You know there are times when you set out to do something and you end up with something else. This is exactly what has happened to my current piece of work. I started out with an idea but you know I just have not achieved it. I wanted it for a competition but it is just not right so instead of submitting it regardless I have decided to set it aside. I was reading an article today written by someone I consider a friend, she is a fellow artist who has some seriously fantastic talent. She said she burns anything that is no good, well I not going to burn it, but I have learnt a fair bit from it. Here is the last photo and lets not talk of it again!

Current Work

Well this is what I have been working on the last few nights. Tonight I have been a bit all over the place in regard to which part of Yuki's face I feel like doing, so the piece looks a bit funny at the moment but it will all come together in the end.

A little bit of colour

This is not a medium that I use alot but I thought I would post if up as this was very much a piece I created tonight because I felt compelled to, it is kind of a weird feeling when your brain suddenly starts ticking over and really wants to get something done. It did not turn out as well as I hoped, but that is ok, as each piece I create teaches and shows me something new.

Little Sketches for Fun

So I have been working on some larger stuff on and off for the past few days but did not feel like posting any of it at the moment as it is mostly in it's weird stages with an eye done here and a bit of an ear there, so I thought I would post a few little fun sketches I did today. I love doing these little guys as they are relaxing, fast and there is zero pressure to get them right, sometimes they are great and sometimes they make it to the completely unrecognisable pile.

I hope to update you guys more with these, it will be interesting to see what they look like after a year or so of doodling!

So here they are

How Time Flies

Wow time has really flown by since the last time I posted. Lots of things have been happening, not many of them art related unfortunately, but things have started to settle down again so I can get back into my art again. I am still working on Jess as well as a few other scribblings such as the birds listed below.

For the next few weeks though I am working on a new project that I am getting ready for a special competition, it is a bit late to start but I have been planning and planning, so hopefully with a few late nights I can get it done.
